Ratings & Reviews

TERREX Fast Mid GTX-Surround Shoes is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from One fatal flaw I have been waiting excitedly for this latest iteration in the TERREX Fast Mid GTX shoe line, having used and loved previous versions for many years. Style and quality are fantastic as always, now weighs even less than previous versions, the sole still has the best grip going, and initially the comfort feels really good. Unfortunately there seems to be one fatal flaw - with the new design of the lace hole attached closest to the front of the shoe. This is done with a small loop of material sewn directly onto the attachment point, and on the inside of the shoe this feels like a small hard (even spiky) point. After hiking for a couple of hours this creates a nasty pressure point by my toes on each side of the shoe particularly when walking downhill. (I was wearing a liner sock along with a medium weight wool sock). I'm surprised it wasn't noticed during development and testing. It's a real shame they didn't use the same style of front lace hole attachment as on the latest Agravic GTX shoes and Skychaser GTX shoes - these have a V-shaped strap extending from the sole, and on the inside of the shoe they feel almost smooth and you can't notice any pressure points at all. Oh well, maybe in the next version! For now I will continue using my other Adidas TERREX shoes instead. (And hope they don't use the same lace hole attachment style on any other future shoes.)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT Having had the original first pair of adidas mid terrex for yonks now and only giving up on me recently , I was keen to get these the latest and not in balck ones as black absorbs sunlight, adidas not a good colour for outdoor. adidas have gone steps ahead and I feel a few steps back with these they are light have excellent grippy Continental soles and I appreciate the surround concept, I mean who dosn't what more air circulation to your feet. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, I have to agree that the very bottom lace loops do create a pressure point, also they don't seem like the most durable point on the shoe. A slip on a rock or if caught could damage the longevity of this shoe. The older terrex had a great lacing system. The bungee lace going through the three straps was a cool feature with purpose, it allowed the lace to be further apart. This meant the shoes would just slip on and off after the bungee lace was loosened. With these new ones I struggle to just slip them on and off. The two/three lace loops near the top should have been further apart It now means me having to get some longer laces that should be supplied but are not. adidas seem to have steeped back with the lacing, and why the lace goes through the strap on the tongue god knows its just annoying, so are the speed lace hooks they should all be open for more flexibility when getting in and out of these shoes. Just have to see if they stand the test of time. adidas please go back to the original lacing but with open lace speed hooks. I am always happy to give you my opinion before you go in to production. CAN'T WAIT BRING ON THE NEXT VERSION

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A missed opportunity Bought these as a lightweight alternative to a traditional walking boot as it's rare I really need a heavy leather boot, and GTX lined trail shoes from other manufacturers are too narrow. So a model from adidas that fits like my boost shoes, offers similar comfort, sleeker design, but can still cope with the outdoors seemed too good to pass up. I'd read a review from someone who said they noticed an area that rubbed on the inside of the foot, but decided to give it a go anyway, ordered online for home delivery. Unfortunately, I had the same issue. One of the lace eyelets is a looped strip of thick nylon that is seemingly bonded to the medial side of the shoe. This creates a small area where the smooth contour of the inside of the shoe is interrupted. I only walked a few steps but could feel this small 'lump' inside the shoe, rubbing on my foot. Particularly after reading the other review, I decided that on a long walk it would likely only get worse and so returned the shoe. Such a shame, because I love the design and colour scheme and the fact that I could have a high top trainer that, with its GTX lining, would be suitable for use as a walking boot and likely be significantly more comfortable than the conventional leather boots I currently use. I know there are other model in the Terrex range so I'll likely check them out, but when looking at the range online, this was the model that appealed most and it seems that a lack of QC and attention to detail has prevented this shoe from being as good as it could be. If you're reading the reviews, you'll likely see at least one other person who was completely happy with the shoe, so still might be worth anyone considering a pair of these to order and see for themselves.
